GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

Position Summary: The Superintendent oversees the maintenance and agronomic practices of the golf course and adjacent areas as well as the repair and maintenance of all golf course related equipment. The Superintendent also supervises the maintenance of the clubhouse, pavilion, parking areas, maintenance facility, etc. In addition to the golf course, the Superintendent will also oversee the agronomic practices of the District’s sports fields.

Job Requirements: An Associate’s degree in turf grass management of related field with minimum of three years experience in golf/turf maintenance is preferred. An equivalent combination of education/experience will be considered however. A thorough knowledge of turf grass management, landscaping, chemical applications, irrigation practices and equipment operations is required. Applicant must be highly organized, detailed oriented and have a basic knowledge of budgeting and expense management. A valid Illinois State Drivers License (Class D) and Commercial Applicator’s Pesticide License are also required.

Compensation: The starting annual salary range is $45,000 - $50,000 plus a health care stipend; employee dental insurance; participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund; professional dues/continuing education reimbursement; and a competitive paid vacation, sick, holiday and personal day package.

Company Profile

Eagle Ridge Resort & Spa is located among the 6800 acre Galena Territory property of Northwestern Illinois near Galena and features four championship courses, three award-winning restaurants, spa, pool, fitness center, convention center, and access to the 220 acre Lake Galena.

General Purpose

The superintendent is entrusted with the development and management of the golf course. The responsibilities are to supervise the maintenance of the golf course (or courses), the servicing and repair of turfgrass maintenance equipment, to keep appropriate records, and to prepare budgets and reports. The superintendent must be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and contribute to the passion for the game of golf as well as leading associates through sound management and a complex agronomic plan to produce the best maintainable golf course.

Duties

Duties that are included are not limited to:

¨ Fertilizer and chemical applications.

¨ Equipment maintenance

¨ Budget and capital expenses

¨ Trees, shrubbery, clubhouse, and driving range maintenance

¨ Purchasing

¨ Interviewing, hiring, training, and coaching of staff members

¨ Record keeping, staff meetings, and implementation of all local, state, and federal policies and regulations.

Educational Experience

Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in turf management or equivalent field at an accredited college or university and minimum 5 years experience in the golf course maintenance industry is preferred.

Special Skills

Have a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain an Illinois State Pesticide License. Also have proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.

• Attending seminars and training sessions on quality maintenance procedures for equipment
• Inspect all related deliveries to insure proper parts and quantities
• Assure proper disposal of all related hazardous materials
• Some training with equipment operation, reel and blade sharpening, and mower adjustments
• Obtain a Illinois Department of Agriculture operators license

• Good understanding of the game of golf

• Performs all other duties as assigned by the superintendent
